All dressed up and nowhere to go? Indulge in your own company. Take yourself out for dinner and a movie. Yes, alone. Turn off your phone and don’t turn it on again until you get home.

You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.

How much makeup on a first date?

This is an important topic so I will throw it to an expert. Carlene K is one of Hollywood’s top celebrity makeup artists. She has glammed up the faces of some of the world’s sexiest ladies ranging from the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger, Serena Williams, Kristin Cavallari and more…

So what does Carlene K think about first date makeup? Well, it all depends on the date:

Daytime date (lunch, music festival, hiking, beach, amusement park etc…)

First date makeup for a day time date should be a lil something like this…Light foundation (tinted moisturizer), thin eyeliner, a couple coats of mascara and a light shade of lipstick or lip balm.

After work happy hour

For an after work happy hour date, most likely there wouldnt be time to go home and start fresh. What I would do is, freshen up under eye concealer and powder, reapply a bit of eye shadow so there are no creases from all day eye shadow, reapply eyeliner and add one more coat of mascara.

Dinner and a movie or show

On a dinner or movie date, I’d definitely glam up a bit. All about the eyes, a soft neutral smokey eye, nice thick lashes, a glow on the cheekbones and body (Carlene K Shine Bronzer, super sexy and smells yummy) and a soft kissable lip color!!!
she adds…
On all 3 dates I’d keep the lip color light. Dark or bright lips can come off as too much makeup, and guys know it can make a mess so there may not be a kiss if there is too much lipstick or especially gloss. It’s important to find the balance between sexy but approachable.  Nobody wants to be remembered as the girl that wore too much makeup. As you get to know each other and learn each others styles, many more risks can be taken with makeup looks!!!

Thanks so much Carlene for your expert advice! I guess my favorite Barbie pink lipstick and blush are best suited for a second date ;).

Crumbs don’t have calories

Crumbs don’t have calories. .. or at least not that many. Use this knowledge when you have the overwhelming urge to indulge in a bag of Cheetos, potato chips, cookies or whatever tasty item is threatening to ruin your diet. It’s as easy as 1-2-3 and all you’ll need is another person, nail polish and a bag of something yummy.

1.)    Invite over a non-dieting, carb eating friend (guys are especially good for this role, except maybe in LA where I’ve actually heard a guy ask the bartender if he could recommend a drink without carbs. .but I digress. ..onto step 2)

2.)    Crack open the bag of something yummy… let your friend snack away while you talk and paint your nails.  See how genius this is? You cannot eat anything out of a bag while painting your nails as it would surely ruin the paint job!

3.)    When the bag is nearing completion and your nails are nice and dry DIVE IN. Enjoy every last crumb. You’ll get all the flavor with hardly any calories PLUS the added benefit of a gorgeous manicure! Mmmm… the ultimate satisfaction.

** editors note: I wrote this piece nearly four years ago and just rediscovered it. Yep, still holds true today.

Bextip for dating

Curb your crazy. Trust me, you will want to be remembered fondly as that amazing girl he somehow let slip away, not the crazy girl from whom he is happy to have escaped alive.
